Nirbhaya is a spirit; it is above the name!

Last couple of days has seen intense debate over #BBC documentary on #Nirbhaya _ #IndiasDaughter. The broadcaster broke the suspense by airing it in #UK and millions have watched it on television and on #YouTube since then. I haven’t watched it, and will not watch it! There is no point in remembering the tragedy, that is not just an insult to the #Indian society, but to the ‘Man-kind’.

I would not like to comment on whether they should have aired it or not; but the biggest blunder BBC committed is naming of the victim who went down fighting in that bus and in the hospital at #Singapore!

The incident has shaken the conscience of every individual with a heart. The incident forced people stand-up united and fight for justice. The incident brought down a mighty empire that looked invincible in the past. The incident forced Prime Minister speak about upbringing of every Indian in his #IndependenceDay speech from the #RedFort!

The name _ Nirbhaya _ has become a spirit to fight for justice and a movement to stand against the evil. It is this spirit and movement that forced the Government/s believe ‘Rape’ to be one of the biggest menace of this society. Though all this happened after we as a nation was shamed before the entire world.

Media/Journalist ethics say – “rape victims name must not be made public”! But BBC has committed a cardinal sin and no amount corrective steps will forgive this once highly respected media house.

I hope the spirit of Nirbhaya is kept alive in the heart of every Indian and make us stand up against any kind of violence against our Mothers , Sisters and Daughters!
