Old habits die hard!

A Professor of mine (am no fan of his) once said, “Read and understand those parts more which you want to counter or hate”! Senior journalist Saba Naqvi is one among the lot who I feel can never move on in life and will remain with an anti-view for our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I write this post reading her “Phas Gaye Re Obama?” piece in the Outlook magazine.

While the World (Modi fans and beyond) considers Barack Obama’s recent visit to India on a considerably short notice was a milestone in India-US relations. Saba Naqvi’s parents would have not been born in the times when an average Indian developed fancy to live and work in the United States. It is this strong feeling that has brought India-US closer, culturally! Political relation between these two nations is very recent though.

India is trying hard to move ahead of time and grow faster. Distances between countries, cities and individuals is shrinking by the day with the advent of technology. And every nation – democratic , religious , communal – are embracing development with wide open arms. India, thanks to its size and ability today is among the most sought after nations. And it is important we become nucleus of growth the world is witnessing.

Barack Obama leads an ambitious nation (many may not agree that US was a guiding force towards development) that aims to always stay in the front of progress! Like India, most nations have followed the footsteps of ‘developed nations’ to progress. And this visit of Obama will help India (and in the process, US) to gain the technological advancement World in witness on various fronts.

Past Governments (may) have done something to ensure India’s energy security. But, the demand is much higher and time much shorter for us to match the pace at which the World is moving. For United States, this is a business opportunity; but for India, this is a necessity. Every consumer pays to purchase basic necessities; and we don’t blame the product enterprise for making money out of this!

Modi has strengthened our relationship with the US further, by inviting Obama. It is rhetoric to say, Indian business will grow, and will pave way for more employment and better life for all.

On the region front: India voted Narendra Modi to lead this nation for five years! And all those who object this, may continue to do the same; because we are a Democracy and not a ‘religious’ or ‘Communist’ nation. And Old Habits Usually Die Hard!
